TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee men’s basketball program will travel to participate in the Chris Paul HBCU Tip-Off over the weekend in a nationally televised event, hosted by Chris Paul and the Basketball Hall of Fame. The Golden Tigers will face Winston-Salem State at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 18, before facing either Cheyney or Virginia Union on Sunday inside the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

The Golden Tigers (0-2) come into the weekend looking to earn their first win after season-opening losses against Union and Shorter. Union used a big start to beat Tuskegee 86-65 on Friday evening in the first game of the South Region Crossover, held in the Winthrop-King Centre. Tuskegee shot 44 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range for the game, while Union shot 55 percent from the field and 42 percent from long range in the game. D’Anthony Pennington led Tuskegee 20 points and one assist in 27 minutes on 7-for-15 shooting. Kusamae Draper added 11 points and three rebounds, while Dylan Cambridgefinished with 11 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
Tuskegee suffered its second loss of the season on Saturday, November 11, losing to Shorter, 82-59, at the Winthrop-King Centre to close out the South Regional Crossover, a game the Hawks led from start to finish. Junior forward Martez Jones led TU with a career-high 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting, including a 5-for-8 mark from the free throw line, and eight rebounds. Draper also reached double figures with 17 points. As a team, the Golden Tigers shot 20-for-52 (38.5 percent) from the floor, 21-for-30 (70 percent) from the charity stripe, and just 1-for-6 (16.7 percent) from three-point range.
Through two games, the Golden Tigers are averaging 63.5 points per game, on 41.3 percent shooting, led by three double figure scorers in Jones (15.5 ppg), Draper (14.0 ppg), and Pennington (13.0 ppg).
The Rams, who were in the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament last season, head to Uncasville with a 2-1 record after an 88-68 home win over Mount Olive on Tuesday night. Winston-Salem State dropped their first game of the year against West Virginia State, 74-64, on Friday (Nov. 10), before defeating Davis & Elkins 76-73 on last Saturday (Nov. 11). WSSU is averaging 77.0 points per game, led by Jaylen Alston who is scoring 19.7 points and Isaac Parson who is adding 19.0 points per contest. The team is shooting 47.0 percent from the field and has made 20 3-pointers through three games.
